The Mayans astronomical recordings regarding the Moon were most impressive. They worked the synodic periods of the Moon into their calendar, calculating it as 29.5 days and alternating between 29 and 30 days for each "month."
They also predicted eclipses, and had an almanac for this which is found in the Dresden Codex.
