I was planning to post that very same link. My very first reaction when I saw the picture was, "No way!" There was that statue they found on Pantellaria a couple of years ago that didn't look much like Caesar, but was at least clearly derivative of typical statues of him. This one looks nothing like Caesar. Actually, to me he looks more like an older Caligula or an idealized Claudius.
Unfortunately, all we have are reports based entirely on press releases and put out by people who probably don't know much about the subject. We know nothing about why this statue is being associated with Caesar other then hype by the French culture minister. (Although, this excavation in the Rhone does appear to offer some very interesting possibilities.) Here's a thought: If there is some reason to associate the name Julius Caesar with this bust, that doesn't necessarily mean it is our Julius Caesar. Half the men in Gallia Narbonensis were named Julius Caesar because they owed their citizenship to him.
