All is quiet at the villa now. For a time, I enjoyed the peacefulness of it all, but at present, I find myself growing restless and lonely.
Arie, his son, Nikolaos, and Con all left for Argos. Arie had invited me to join them on the trip to see his homeland and to meet his king. However, duty prevented me from going with them and they could not postpone the journey. The seas are favorable now. Arie and I said our goodbyes sweetly, laced with promises that we would soon meet again. I pray to the goddess every day for all their safety.
Darius and Ranae are back at Phaistos, beginning their respective roles as king and queen. They will have their coronation soon. It is the planning for this event that prevented me from venturing off to Argos with my love. The other young people, Prince Kamiros and Lady Megara, also went with the twins. I am happy they have such good friends close to their own age for support and company.
As I wander past the main entrance to the villa, I hear a knock at the door. It is a quiet knock the first time and I almost do not hear it. The second round of knocking is more insistent. A guard who was standing at the top of the main stairway comes rushing down to answer. I place my hand out to forestall him.
"It is okay, Markos. I shall get it myself."
He looks at me perplexed for a moment and then steps aside. He stays at attention nearby though, in case he is needed. I pull the door open and look out. Four females stand before me. I look at each one and sudden recognition of one of them hits me.
"Atheena?" I ask as I step just outside the door. "Is it really you, my dear friend?!"
