The tribunis plebis, Servius Succusanus, made his way to the offices of the Urban Praetor, Gaius Aemilius Prisca. By the time he got there, he was perspiring from the summer heat, and mopped his brow with a large white napkin.
"I need to see Gaius Aemilius Prisca--it is my duty to report an attempt at Bribery by a citizen of the Republic!
"I was offered a bribe in the College of Tribunes to maintain the veto of Manlius Torquatus on the lex Iulia sumptuaria religiosa."
The Urban Praetor's harried clerk looked at the tribune with renewed interest--bribery was an always volatile issue! Spurius Terentilius had to ask for full details so he could convey them to the Praetor.
"Who made this bribery attempt?"
Succusanus wiped his brow again. "Publius Manlius Torquatus!"
