    It's true, though, although Apollo is a little scary - not someone I'd like to upset - he's probably my favorite god of the entire Pantheon and embodies more things I value than anyone else. Perhaps it's simply that he's the god of light, prophecy, music, poetry, so much!

    I have an audio version of Fagles' translation of The Iliad with Derek Jacobi narrating, and the first part where Apollo swoops down on the Greek camp to fire arrows of plaque at them . . . scary and amazing.

    I always thought the Romans made him a much more accessible, nice, tidy, friendly god. But the Greek version is pretty major.
