If you were to go back in time, would you be able to handle the smell?

The medieval city was gross enough, imagine what Rome must have smelled like? I am sure you could get used to it, but would it really be worth it?

I have heard that the reason why Rome shut down at night for deliveries was more for the smell rather than the traffic. Now this would have to be pretty horrendus of a smell, on top of the Romans, who decide to do the quick steam and rinse, rather than the proper wash after using the bathroom.

My question...How Hygenic were the Roman Baths compared with the rest of the world?
