Welcome to a Gem of a Goldfest!

We hope you enjoyed your day in The Orient celebrating Goldfest V! We are proud to announce that the Autumn Moon Puppet Theatre, Grand Canal Tour and Asian Puppetry Quiz won Gem awards.

    The Autumn Moon Puppet Theatre

Throughout the day we presented puppet plays in The Autumn Moon Puppet Theatre and showcased the puppetry styles and stories of five different Asian cultures rewritten and illsutrated by several talented members of the Orient and AncientWorlds. In the evening we held a wrap party at the puppet theatre where people could meet the playwrights and the puppeteers.

You can still see the shows any time at The Autumn Moon Puppet Theatre.

    Articles

Several "must read" articles on Asian puppetry were contributed by our talented writers:

  • Puppetry in Asian Cultures
    by Senex Caecilius
  • Water Puppets of Vietnam
    by Senex Caecilius
  • Mynamar Puppet Theatre
    by Hoshiko Murasaka
  • Beloved Glove Puppets of Taiwan
    by Kazuo Minamoto

  • Another fun festival quiz

Once you've read the articles and attended the puppet shows, you can have fun testing your knowledge by taking our brilliant quizmaker Feiyan Zhou's challenging Asian Puppetry Quiz in the Festival Quizzes archive.

Don't forget to pick up a spectacular Autumn Moon Puppet Theatre souvenir plaque created by our one and only Sankira Qin:

  • Wayang Kulit souvenir plaque

    Grand Canal Tour

We also showcased a fabulous cruise up China's Grand Canal to Beijing with the local tour guide, Zhou Chang Min. Tourists were taken to the fertile Zhejiang Province, see artifacts from the Neolithic Majiabang culture in Jiaxing, the rich agricultural region of Jiangsu Province, visited the shops and gardens of Suzhou and learned about boats on the Canal from Zhou Chang.

Zhou Chang is always eager and willing to treat you to China's Grand Canal Tour.

Our gorgeous 2007 Orient Goldfest festival graphic and plaque were created by the talented Shibori Murasaka.
