    The reason there are ventilation shafts for the kivas is that the entry hole through which the ladder descends, is small, and the fires must be kept burning, so there is the need for a source of additional air to keep the fires burning (and to keep the participants from passing out). Bath houses are a totally different structure, when found on the Pueblos.
