Julian is off to buy supplies after we have our morning meal. Once he is gone, my mind starts trying to wrap around the clues that have been given to us thus far. It is not much to go on, but if I understand things correctly, we are being given pretty much opposite what is truly meant. The only two lakes that exist on this island are at the western end. So, we are being directed toward the east. I have little knowledge of that part of the island. It is time to ask someone who would know it well.

I decide to have a chat with Hektor. He knows this island like the back of his hand. After some idle chit chat, catching up and explaining to him how I injured my arm, I ask him a question that hopefully will help lead to a possible answer.

"Hektor, if someone wanted to disappear for a time without actually leaving Crete, where do you suppose they would go?"

"The Valley of the Dead," he responds immediately.

    "The Valley of the Dead?"

"Yes. It is a gorge at the east end of the island not too far from the palace of Zakros. Are you needing to drop out of sight for a time for some reason, perhaps to escape from that man who came here with you?"

"Oh, no. I was just curious, Hektor. There is no need for me to run from Julian. I have known him for many years and he is a good man."

"You had me worried there for a moment. He seems very devoted to you. You are a fortunate lady."

"Yes, I am," I reply with a light smile.

"So, if you are not trying to hide yourself, you must be looking for someone. Is it anyone I know?" he asks mischievously.

"We are looking for someone, but you would not know this person. Beyond that, I cannot tell you anymore."

"Ah, I understand. I wish you good hunting," he says. "If there is anything else I can assist you with, do not hesitate to ask."

"Thank you, Hektor. You have been very helpful, as always."

I take my leave, returning to our room to begin packing. Julian returns shortly after.

"I take it you have some idea where we should head next," he says after kissing me briefly on the neck.

    "That I do."

    "Care to share?"

"Of course. We need to head east to Zakros, and from there, make our way to the Valley of the Dead."

    "In Egypt?"

"You know, that was my first thought as well until Hektor informed me that we have on of our very own here on Crete."
