Traditional foods for Icelandic yule celebrations included "Hangikjöt" smoked mutton or "Kjötsúpa" mutton soup. Other traditional foods included the Rjúpa or rock ptarmigan, "Laufabrauð" or leaf bread and "Grautur" or Porridge. The porridge was considered a special treat usually because of the scarcity of grains.
