Walnut meats can be eaten as they are or added to breads and vegetables. Pound them to extract their oils or grind them and boil in water to make a milky drink. Walnut bark and roots were used medicinally as antiseptic, emetic and laxative, and were chewed for toothache. Soaking and boiling the hulls produce a dark brown dye. You'll have to work to get these nuts out of their shells. Hammering them works pretty well.
