I am the bog.
I saw the coming
And the passing
Of races old and new.
I am the earth
I am the air
I am the water too.
I hide your secrets
Deep within
Until they tear them from me.
Old screams long silent
Are unleashed
And tell their gruesome story.
Deep in salty marshes
A traveller lost
In unknown lands
A frightened maiden
Sacrificed
For the fortunes of her clan.
A murd’rer punished
Forever entombed
Stares with sightless eyes.
My briny womb will
Succour all who
In me, meet their demise.
Preserved in time and lost to time
They linger through the ages
Prison cell or refuge,
Death will have its’ wages.
