Woods Canyon Pueblo was inhabited for about 150 years, from about A.D. 1140 through the late 1200s. It consisted of approximately 50 kivas, 16 towers, and between 120 and 220 surface rooms, as well as middens, water control features and possibly a plaza. The time that it ceased to be inhabited coincided with a general depopulation of the Mesa Verde region as a whole.

Crow Canyon Archaeological Center has conducted test excavations throughout 1994 through 1996. Evidence for the Woods Canyon Pueblo has come from small number of kivas and their associated middens, excavated with a view to dating their use and abandonment.
