Kokopelli - An Overview Kokopelli was the humpbacked flute player of the Ancient Southwest who was associated with fertility. He was the god of marriage also. He also aided agriculture by driving away winter with his flute. He also was one of the trickster gods. He was the protector of seeds. He was associated with the cricket - because of the music that the crickets make. And of course, he was the god/spirit of music!

More on Kokopelli and the Ancient Southwest For the contemporary Zuni, he is known as Ololowishkya - the rain god. He is also central to the Zuni maize ceremonies. Among the contemporary Hopi, he is thought to carry unborn children on his back. The Hohokam spoke of and the Hopi speak of Kokopelmana, his consort. He was also in charge of animal fertility and thus can been seen depicted with animals such as the deer, snakes, lizards, and insects.
