The Esagila complex is in the center of Babylon. People who enter the Esagila first enter a large court (40x70 meters), then a second court (40 x 25), and finally see the shrine itself, which consists of two sacred rooms: the anteroom and the 'holy of holies' where the priests serve the cult statue of Marduk and his consort Zarpanitum.
