Welcome to Lahontan Lake. The people who once inhabited this ancient land called themselves the “Agai Ticcatta” which means “trout eaters.” The cutthroat trout still swim in these waters.

Once the Mother of Lakes, now a desert of mirage, all that is left is Little Lahontan Lake. The trail that leads through what was once old Mother Lake holds many wonders. It is a long trek, but one that should be taken. Bring plenty of water and wear a hat.

The trail skirts the Red Dragon whose water is hot enough to kill the unlucky birds and anyone foolish enough to go too close. There is plenty of safe drinking water ahead.

The Heart of Lahontan. Mapmakers call this place Little Lahontan Lake. From the Tell of Tears: For years the waters of Lahontan nourished the land and those that lived here. When the great ice vanished, the days became warmer. The waters receded and only the heart of Lahontan remains. When the stars align people come from far and wide. For two full moons there is singing and praising, hunting and cooking. We honor the ancestors when we honor the old ways.
