Butsudan - a shrine found in religious temples and homes of Japanese and other Buddhist cultures

Byōbu - Japanese folding screens made from several joined panels, with decorative paintings and calligraphy, used to separate interiors, and enclose private spaces

Chabudai - is a short-legged table used in traditional Japanese homes. Occupants are seated on the tatami floor rather than using chairs. The four legs of a chabudai are retractable

Irori - are a type of traditional sunken hearth common in Japan. Used for heating the home and cooking food, irori are essentially square pits in the floor with a pot hook, or jizaikagi. These hooks generally were hollow bamboo tubes containing an iron rod, with an attached lever, often shaped like a fish, that would allow the pot or kettle to be raised or lowered

Kamidana - a type of miniature shrine placed or hung high on a wall in some Japanese homes. The Kamidana contains a wide variety of items related to the Shinto style ceremony. Worship at the kamidana is as simple as saying prayers, offering food ie. rice, water etc. and flowers. Before worshipping at the Kamidana it is ritually important for family members to cleanse their hands

Shōji - a room divider or door consisting of translucent washi paper over a wooden frame

Tansu - chest, chest of drawers or cupboard

Tatami mats - are a traditional type of Japanese flooring. Made of woven soft rush straw, and traditionally packed with rice straw, tatami are made in individual mats of uniform size and shape, bordered by brocade or plain green cloth

Tokonoma - a small raised alcove in a washitsu, a Japanese style room with a tatami floor, where decorative scrolls are hung. Ikebana (arranged flowers) and/or bonsai are also often displayed there

Zabuton - a Japanese cushion for sitting
