Welcome to our Keep and Great Hall!
Our estate forms part of the village area in Colchester.
In the village you will find the Marketplace and Tavern, a blacksmith's shop, the seamstress, and of course the church as well as many other places of interest.
We hope you enjoy your visit.
Honey Cottage:
Home to our gardener on the estate, he produces fresh fruits and vegetables for our table, and looks after our beautiful gardens and impeccably maintained grounds. He also takes care of the bee hives, an important job as honey is the main form of sweetener at this time.
Shepherd's House:
The home of our shepherd who takes great care of our flock, an important position of responsibility
due to the Essex wool trade.
We also keep a small herd of cattle,
some of which help supply the London markets.
Fisher Cottages:
Named in honour of our long serving Fisher family who catch the fish and lampreys (a type of eel)
for our table from the waterway on the estate.
Our gamekeeper and our woodman also live in cottages here.
The Estate Manuscripts contain a collection of information and images on Saxon and Norman Britain, including a section on Arms and Armour and Anglo-Norman warfare. More information and images can also be found at my property in Normandy and at My Homesite. Please feel free to browse!
Visitors are very welcome to drop into the Great Hall and say Hello. You can also try a quick quiz on the 'Quizmania' thread and/or help yourself to a pot of Colchester honey as a souvenir.
