The Cottage
A place to call home
I've spent many years wandering and fighting for my leige, but marriage has finally made me put down roots somewhere - Essex seems as good a place as any and my wife Berthe's family are settled here after their migration from the Low Countries. You may often find me away fighting on behalf of the realm, but Berthe is here to make you welcome. The Dutch Quarter: The Dutch Quarter in Colchester is in the area bounded by West Stockwell Street, Northgate Street, Maidenburgh Street and High Street. Places of Interest: St. Martin's Church, Dutch Quarter The Stockwell Arms pub Peake's House ![]() The Dutch quarter is a maze of tiny streets containing many original Tudor houses. The area is named after the influx of Flemish weavers who came to the town in the 16th Century, where the cloth industry flourished.
