Shedyet

May Ra's benevolence warm you, Lord Sobek grant you peace and may the waters refresh you.
Welcome to the city of Shedyet.

Look about you and marvel at the god’s great works! Read into the hearts and smiles of the people and you will find them justifiably proud of their great city and its environs. Come and sample the many delights Shedyet presents for your enjoyment and we're sure you'll agree that we have much to offer visitors and residents alike when it comes to providing the best of Kemet’s many cultural splendours.

In this hospitable climate, the Lower Laurel 'city of crocodiles' sits dramatically on Amenemhets Canal (life, health, prosperity) just south east of Lake She-resy
and flaunts all the majesty of traditional architecture one expects to find in an Egyptian city. An obelisk in honour of Senwosret I (life, health, prosperity) marks the city's northern entrance. It's worth visiting, since it's the only obelisk in Kemet with a rounded top and has a cleft where a golden statue of Ra rests.

Wander into the warren of alleys
and passageways and you'll find a welcoming
population inviting you to experience this vibrant city.
See their townhouses with their courtyards,
gardens, delicate rooftop pavilions
and lintels carved with protective heiroglyphs...
and all glowing in rich golden sandstone
and locally produced mud-brick.

Further towards the Sobek Temple district, the streets are lined with lotus pillars sculpted with statues of the gods in pink granite and leading to the central and vibrant market place. Revealing its true adventurous spirit, Shedyet's market sees merchant caravans of donkeys arrive daily from lands beyond the Great Green laden with lapis lazuli from Afghanistan, rare Hittite spices, blue pea indigo from Hellas, Alashiyan and regional opium. Shedyet's master craftsmen and women produce a fascinating array of gold jewellery, oils, pottery, bronze and copperware, enamel ware and fine embroidered linens; the shaded booths bursting into life with vendors and traders noisily competing with each other and bartering with our citizens.

Along the crowded harbour walk you’ll find chandlers specializing in the more spirited activities of the sepat…here you can kit yourself out for your visit to the Lower Laurel… hire a barge to sail the canal and Lake She-resy
, stock up on hunting, fishing and fowling provisions, negotiate with the Lower Laurel guides for the best price for their expertise. Sample the freshest produce from Ta-she, the garden of Kemet... Shedyet is fast developing a fine culinary reputation for the dazzling range and sophistication of its cuisine and locally produced wines. Waterside alehouses offer a hospitable atmosphere in which to relax and watch as people come and go from the active ferries plying the canal.

Barges unload Tura limestone, guests from distant Waset, precious ebony wood from the sepat of the Arch in Upper Kemet, ivory and myrrh from far distant Punt. Papyrus for the great law institute of Theadelphia here in the Lower Laurel that comes to us from the sepat of the Crocodile.

We take a smiling conceit in being the prime vacation destination in Kemet with an international reputation for quality, friendliness, warmth and geniality. So reach out and explore our cultural diversity! If there is one word that best captures our city, it is "unique." A dynamic city rich in contrast and colour where you'll find a harmonious blend of culture, gastronomic wonders, arts and architecture and brimming with the unbridled friendliness that the sepat of the Lower Laurel embodies!
