Kingdom of the Franks
General Urbs

The first recorded naming of Francia is in the Panegyrici Latini of the early third century. At the time it described the area north and east of the Rhine, roughly in the triangle between Utrecht, Bielefeld, and Bonn. It corresponded with the joint lands of Frankish tribes of the Sicambri, Salians, Bructeri, Ampsivarii, Chamavi and Chattuarii. Some of these peoples such as the Sicambri and Salians already had lands in the Roman Empire and delivered troops to Roman forces at the border.

Over time these lands continued to expand and The Kingdom of the Franks came to dominate much of middle Europe in the years between 481AD to 843AD.They became the lands of historical figures such as Clovis and the Merovingians, Charles "The Hammer" Martel, Pepin the Short, and Charlemagne.

The following list provides links to some great websites which include maps and information detailing the development of the Frankish Empire.
