Relatively untouched before Julius Caesar's wars against the Belgae and the other part-Celtic, part-Germanic tribes, Gallia Belgica and its great provincial capital, later known as Treveris, became a capital of "Rome in the North" and its supply lines between Gaul and Germania, critical to the Empire.
