The industrial and artisan district in northern Chengdu
If you are skilled in a craft, move into the more rural Jinniu district to the north of Chengdu where you will be among the farmers' markets and stalls of the artisans. Chengdu has long been known for its handcrafts, particularly Shu embroidery and lacquerware.
You might want to train to become a printer of currency in the Jingchong Temple, now known as the Wan-fu Temple, or Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas, where paper money was made beginning in the Northern Song dynasty. If you are an engineer and an entrepreneur, you might be able to corner the market in salt. A saltworks which used natural gas to produce this valuable commodity was established in this area during the Western Han dynasty.
