The crannog of the clan Niall, near the shores of the Lough Mask. The time is before Patrick is known and tales of a "once and future king" have not been heard. Clans known as the Celts clash with each other over the least argument. Clan rulership falls to the Conn Finn (a position usually held until death), and education and spiritual leadership resides with the Druids.

There is much good historical information at the Crannog Niall Group, which is an “Interactive Writing” group. The first tales of The Crannog date back to the days of “Ancient Sites”. Two of these have been recreated at the Group. Brandubh Niall has reposted Journeys, a magical trip to the land of the UnSidhe, and Saoirse (Red Terror) Niall has recreated The Return of Coirpre's Daughter, a tale of interwoven and complicated family ties and succession.
