The Origin of the Pinguinus Clan

The Pinguinus Clan had its origins in the alternate chapters written by a citizen using the name Canis Venaticus, back in the days when SPQR occupied a hilltop at Time-Warner/Pathfinder (c. 2747 A.U.C.). (The domain hosting those chapters is, alas, now off-line.)

When CyberSites set up its own walled city, one of the reforms included requiring the citizens to choose surnames. Canis Venaticus requested that the name of one of his protagonists, Fredericus Pinguinus, be added to approved list.

FeAudrey had already been adopted into the Pinguinus clan by virtue of UNIX account (Canis had given her a free one on the same host on which the alternate chapters resided.) Neither Canis nor FeAudrey has any explanation for the other members of the clan.

A recently discovered, long-suppressed MS suggests that Fredericus Pinguinus was briefly (very briefly) Roman Emperor in AD 69, and the ONLY emperor ever to be voted not one but TWO "damnatio memoriae".
