A little local rabble rousing

Fun with the city council Posted at 00:00 EST
Here in Des Moines, we have a bit of a local, well also statewide scandal.

An allegedly non-profit agency, working in conjunction with the state job service turns out to have been a really corrupt scam, rife with nepotism, inflated salaries and a nice GED bimbo sleeping her way to the top. Just Google CIETC (Central Iowa Employment Training Consortium) and you will see what I mean. There are state and Federal investigations going on about it.

The thing of it is, the head of the supervising board of CITEC is also on the city council here in Des Moines. He's the guy who approved $1.8 million in salaries and bonuses for the directors and some favored case workers. One of the former is the above mentioned bimbo. One of the latter is his brother.

Now, this guy, Archie Brooks, resigned from the CIETC board, claiming no wrong-doing and blaming his inattention to details on a stroke he had a year ago. Now the logical conjecture would be that if he is so handicapped, he should also resign or be removed from the city council.

Guess again.

There is another council member who was on the board who also let things slide. He refuses to leave as well.

So, for the past couple months, I and others have been going down to the city council meetings and expressing our outrage. And doing a bit of rabble rousing.

I made the newspaper. And the local TV news. And news radio.

I think Archie is pissed at me.

Good.

I managed to work in some Classical content into my speeches at the city council meetings. Cicero and Polybius are great sources.
