A Trap
|

|
I thought of a plan to trap the fiend that is snagging my laundry. Last evening two of my three guards were drugged and asleep. One of my best dresses, my oldest daughter's shifts and a toga that was bestowed upon me by my dearest grandmamma was taken. When my third man arrived he found the tow other guards passed out and a funny substance in their winecups.
I plan to trap this thief and expose him (well maybe not expose him, it might not be a good sight).
Anyway, keep watch, things will get busy soon. |

Stollen Stola?

My wash maidens have advised me that several of my stolas have been stolen while hanging out to dry.
Is there a special meaning to this? Is there a rash of stola burglaries in the city?

Now where would fashion be without the conservative look? Cato would not be the man he was without his rough, coarse sackcloth (oh where are his ashes?) |

Fashion Continued...

Niobe in Lavendar Now the Voreni family tried their best to be fashionable. Although sometimes it doesn't work out quite right. Just ask Atia's opinion of Niobe's "Daughter of the Forest" dress. Where on Gaia's earth did she think up of the idea for that mean, green gown?
Here is Niobe looking perfectly adequate in her common rough silk dress for her husband's business venture party.
 Togaman
Now we have Lucius himself in his "un-caced" white toga. This is when he was representing the lower house of government.
And of course, what would a peek at fashion be without our wonderful Titus Pullo himself. Have you ever wondered what you could wear to the next sleepover party?
Well Titus has that all locked down with his version of Slumber Party Sleepwear. His creation wears well and is perfectly acceptable in any sleepwear situation--cruises, slumber parties, stag night and of course, drunk on stairs. Way to go Pullo!

Fashion in Rome circa 44 BC

Leisure Wear "Do-Rag" Okay, there just aren't any good stories about Rome fashion. Well let's start some here. First of all, everyone wants to be like Titus Pullo--a real ladies' man and a striking figure. Well did you know that our very own Titus Pullo is a leader of fashion? Yes indeed! Although he looks good in just about anything (and delightful in nothing) he is the founder of the Roman version of the Do-Rag.
Of course, Titus is wonderfully attired in his "Leisure Suit" complete with the meanderings of Lucius Vorenus--
Of course Titus and I have shared a variety of ideas about intrerior decor as well!
More on that another day----

Training Slaves Nice and Docile
|

It owuld be of tremendous help if one could obtain a manual about how to train slaves. Some of these Gauls that have been sent to our Roman slave markets are quite savage --- dirty, hairy and unclean.
My slave master, Stragun, is at his wits end. I wonder if I whip him he could perform better as a trainer? |

Regifting
|

A "regift"? The oddest thing happened this morning. Just when I thought I would see or hear the last from that Servilia, a messenger appears at the gate of my villa. My valet asked if I could speak to the man. I went to the gate and saw that this messenger came bringing gifts from Servilia of the Junii. She sends me, of all things, a jewel-laden golden tortoise held by a nude male slave. Both were to be my gifts!!!
I made a polite, and icy response of declination to the messenger and sent these gifts back to his mistress.
Why would Servilia send these to me? Also, I have a funny feeling that these were regifted to me. They looked used.
Now, if only she had the sense to send a few barrels of ice.... |
