The Springs of Daphne

 ANTIOCH The Lady Reylari has acquired a most lovely property with therapeutic springs. We sailed here on the Delphine and will take to the waters. I have both of my boys with me and am happy to have them here. I look forward to this welcome sojourn. HOUSE OF THE BOAT PSYCHES ~~~~~~*~~~~~~ |

The procession moved along the broad Pananthenaic Way through the Agora, singing hymns to Athena and headed up the hill towards the Acropolis, They turned left just befor they reached the Eleusinium, rounded the eastern end of the block and returned to the Panathenaic way. Pressing on up the steep slope to the saddle between the Acropolis and the Areopagus. The procession stopped in front of the Propylaea while sacrifices were offered on the Areopagus and at the alter of Athena Hygiaea, The most perfect of the heifers was sacrificed to Athena Nike [the victorious] and Athena Polias [the protector of the city] in front of the tiny temple of Victory. The sacrifices were accompanied by prayers, including special Prayers for the ones who suffered so much in the war with Sparta. |

Today four young girls in a procession carry the basket of sacred objects to the Erectheum. They are forbidden to look in the basket. Today is the Arretophorion. Soon the PEPLOS OF ATHENA will be brought by ship to Athens. This is the last great festival of the year. PANATHENAIC FESTIVAL |

The parade passes by...

They come to visit the place where Leto gave birth to the divine twins. THE BIRTHPLACE OF APOLLO. Both of my sons will participate in the games. They represent the Delian League. I am very proud. As they pas by the crowd throws flowers. Many wild poppies are abloom all over the island. Theymake their way to the Sacred Lake. The swans have returned. Many share their honey cakes with the wild birds. The sacrifices of the day are being made ready and soon the games will begin. |
