Well, today has certainly been a most trying day! Yesterday I ran across that villain Robespierre. I do now wish I had not lost my temper and struck the foul pig! This morning he was found murdered in his room. I was accused of doing it, too. I can't blame the authorities for suspecting me, nor do I blame myself for doing what I did. He deserved what he got, and worse. Yet his death does not bring my Lynette back.I wonder, though, what information the authorities have? They did say they know I had not committed the crime and they knew, or suspected, others. But who? I am relieved, but I still have a feeling I may not be completely in the clear. I think I may want to check things out myself. I do not trust the Egyptian police, or at least not the inspector they have on the case. The entertainer Simon Niall puts on an excellent show. I really enjoyed his performance, but when he sang Never Forget, I could not help but remember my dear love. No, darling, I will never forget you. You are the very breath of life to me and always will be. You may be gone from me in this world, but we'll meet again in the next. I still feel you are with me, darling. You are in the trees whispering in the wind, the breeze softly caressing my face, and your scent is in the flowers. You are always and forever with me. In all my life, there are two days I will never be able to forget. The day you died, I died inside, dear heart. And the day you saved me from Death. You are now my guardian angel. I miss you, Lynette, and I love you. |

The past couple of days have been enjoyable. Yesterday evening, I joined some other guests for a game of cards. One of our number, Omar Djari, was suddenly called away. I suspect because of the kidnapping of Lady Reylari Ramses, which we learned of only the following day. Luckily, she was rescued by K.C. Cormac, another of our group, by a most fortuitous coincidence. He was by the Nile when she and her abductor passed by. The brave woman leaped from the cart and into the arms of K.C. Unfortunately, the culprit escaped. He was Nesime Narmer, an employee of the hotel. We shall have to keep an eye out in case he makes another attempt.

Arrived in Alexandria on the steamer Luxor. Had an enjoyable voyage. Caught the train from Alexandria to Cairo. Bill had recommended the Hotel Cairo. A most excellent recommendation. Staff is most helpful, and not overbearing as in Turkey. I obtained a room overlooking the gardens as I am tired of the noises from the streets. I'll take my chances on that other matter. It's been some months since my last attack. Off to the salon for a whiskey and a smoke. Perhaps a stroll in the garden, too.
Met a young lady in the garden. Invited her and her father to dinner tonight. Had an attack there. Hope it wasn't noticed. Must get ready for dinner.
Turns out he wasn't her father! She is his caretaker. Was having a most enjoyable time until I was reminded of the war. For whatever reason, I had a very strong attack and had to leave the table. The memories were too powerful this time. |
