The leaders of the sacrifices follow with the sacrificial animals, a hundred cows, and some sheep, and all those connected with the ritual. Then come the resident foreigners [metics, or metoikoi] in their purple cloaks, and carrying trays of offerings of cakes, and honey. The holy water carriers and musicians playing the aulos and kithara followed. The large peplos, suspended from the yards of a ship on wheels, was dragged along with the procession. Behind the musicians came beared old men and commanders of the army. All carried olive branches. They were hustled along by the apobates, armed warriors who rode and ran beside chariots. The chariots were followed by the cavalry. The victors of various games were there too. The masses of population followed, dem by dem. The long frieze on the Parthenon shows part of the procession in detail.

We are setting sail for the Sacred Island of Delos. Apollo is returning to his island and we are celebrating the birthdays of the god and goddess Apollo and Artemis.

Apollo has returned to Delos and now the Delian Games will begin.
