WHEN ICE IN THE RIVER IS GONE

Despite our name for this moon, the ice is not yet gone from the river!

"How I long for spring and the return of the birds who flew south last fall! Maybe they will be coming back from so far south and west, they will have caught a glimpse of The One Who Went Away on her long journey".

NATIVE AMERICAN HEALING

Pomo Basket Compote

Fill a basket with strawberrys, and celebrate at the Museum of the Americas!

Powwow and Strawberry Thanksgiving These are two Native American celebrations. Powwows are Native American social and ceremonial events which are held all over the United States throughout the year. They are important for the preservation and sharing of Native Americans' heritage. Strawberry Thanksgiving is a festival held in June to honor the early summer moon - the "strawberry moon." People who eat the strawberries and participate in the festival must forgive past disagreements.

Basketry and pre-clovis exhibits are now showing at the Museum of the Americas. All are welcome to come and visit.

WE ARE THE STARS WHICH SING,

WE SING WITH OUR LIGHT;

WE ARE THE BIRDS OF FIRE,

WE FLY OVER THE SKY.

OUR LIGHT IS A VOICE;

we make a road for the spirits

FOR THE SPIRITS TO PASS OVER.

DRESMAKER DRESSMAKER

The Art of Emily Carr

British Columbia-born artist and writer, Emily Carr (also known as ME Carr) painted the skies, forests and Native Indian cultures of the Pacific Northwest in a style noted for its intense energy and shimmering light.

Carr studied art in San Francisco and England and visited France in 1910-11, but it was in the remote native Indian villages of her home province that she found creative inspiration. One of Canada's most famous painters, her career is testimony to the fact that achievement is not reserved for the young. Carr was 57 years old before her paintings gained national critical attention, and it was in the years that followed that she created the body of work on which her reputation rests.

This beaded and quill work buckskin gown is just what I would want to wear to the next pot-lash. The trend this season in fashion is a return to 'Elegance'. The fabulous Dicken collection of Native America Art is on exhibit at the George Gustav Heye Center in New York.
