Herbal Lore

A colleague of mine, Moss Niall has currently undertaken a project wherein she is compiling a tome of Herbs and their Medicinal Qualities. This Tome that I am creating is designed to compliment that one by describing the more mystical uses for the same herbs. With all things, these herbs should be used with caution and one should always consult a trained professional or druid before attempting to use them. USES: Is burnt as an incesnse to attract money or good luck. I can also be distilled into an essence to promote healing.

USES: Is burned as an incense to purify an area of negativity and is also used to attract prosperity in all forms. In healing, it is good for ulcers, hot inflammations and burns. It helps with morphew, leprosy, jaundice, spleen and kidney troubles. It stays fluxes of the belly, kills worms, helps calm fits, strengthens the back and eases its pains, helps bruises and blemishes of the skin such as measles, small pox, pricks, falls and grazes. It is also said to be a useful counter to poisons and venoms.

FOLK NAMES: Dyer's Bugloss, Orcanet, Dyer's Alkanet.

USES: Is used to protect the home from Poverty and or hunger when burned and the ashes scattered around a property.

FOLK NAMES: Buffalo Herb, Lucerne, Purple Medic, Jat, Qadb.

Uses: More of a culinary than a healing herb, but is serviceable in opening obstructions of the liver and spleen, provoking wind and urine and is also good in dropsy and stranguary. Is a favoured herb in mid-wifery as it can bring on the courses and expell the afterbirth.

FOLK NAMES: Alisanders, Horse-Parsley, Wild-Parsley, Black Pot-herb

Uses: A singular herb for all inward wounds, particularly ulcers; griping pains, windy and choleric humours in the stomach, spleen or belly; good for eye, ear and throat troubles and can be usefull in expelling venoms and poisons as well as promoting urine and women's courses.

FOLK NAMES: Cats-foot, Ground Ivy, Gill-Go-By-Ground, Turn-hoof, Hay-maids

Alder Tree - COMMON

Uses: Excellent against burnings, inflammations (internal or external) and ague. As the leaves and bark are cooling, drying and binding, they make good curatives for swellings as well as being refreshing for a traveller's foot. Early morning leaves with the dew still on them are also a good way to rid a chamber of fleas.

Alder Tree - BLACK

USES: Purging serious or bilious hunours, dropsy and jaundice. Also useful for the curing of bodily itches, kills lice and lessening immoderate fluxes. It is important to note with this herb that unless prepared properly, can cause strong vomiting, excites pain and is generally quite hurtful.

AGRIMONY

USES: Used in protection magicks as well as to banish negative energies and evil spirits. It is a useful counterattack as it not only breaks hexes, but reverses them unto the hexer. It is also used in sleeping potions to render the person like unto death.

In healing, it is useful in the treatment of Gout, dropsies and jaundice. Due to its cleansing and drying faculty, it is useful for the curing of sore limbs, opening and cleansing the liver and all other inner wounds, bruises, hurts and distempers.

USES: Can be placed around the bedroom to increase fertility. Can also be used as a Poison, so caution should be used when using this herb.

AFRICAN VIOLET

USES: The purple coloured flowers and plants are grown in homes to promote spirituality within it. The plants themselves also have protection qualities and can ward off negativity.
