Click on the trail of links we leave to our current landing spots in the posts! We will use one of the last posts to link to our next spot, either on the ship (here) or wherever we have landed. This allows you to follow us around the ancient worlds for some high-seas adventure! Some pretty amazing stories have come from these journeys, come along!

Jormungandr, the World Serpent, was built in the Norwegian Royal shipyards. This fact is apparent in how this light and sturdy this ship is! The appointments make it clear this ship was made to impress... and to overcome.
We have run afowl of Gods and Kings! We are all known pirates now! How the heck do you end an end-game with Kings with armies in tow?! The Draíc as Muir was burned and beached off the coast of Alba, the greatest ship AW has ever known. I remembered the cannons from China though! Only 13 were saved! The Jormungandr is a Norse Royal Drakkar, the Ban Sidhe is a Drakkar I built, & the Fimbulvintr is a Saxon Royal Drakkar we took from the Prince Wulfnoth Godwinson in a terrible battle that finally ended in his death. Sent to protect his daughter from the Saxons who hunt her and her husband, the Jormungandr is filled with 50 Royal-guard as crew. This ship was not sent to look pretty, it was sent to make it clear that the King of Norway has interest in the safety of its cargo... which now includes a baby in Catharina's womb!

and Im happily off in another world when I enter the tavern to see the place in complete disaray. There are people lying horizontal with the Egyptian crawling around on the floor amongst the scraps looking a bit green and another traveller drinking hair mixed with ale out of a helmet. lol. I just stand and gawk at this funny scene. Did I miss something, I wonder? I take a closer look at the couple on the floor and my eyes nearly pop out! Its Herger and Anarane! "What in Tyr's name are you two up to," I blurt, feeling jealous that it wasnt me down there instead, being in his muscular embrace. That was it!! I grabbed the nearest wooden bucket of water and threw it over the both of them to cool them off and flounced right back outside wishing I had stayed home instead.

Talk about putting the fire out of a special moment

First I hear the loud voice of my old friend telling me to get up off my butt then next thing Im drenched with a bucket of water by a crazy Elenwe. Must be my unlucky day! Thats twice now that my time alone with Anarane had been thwarted. Are there no happy fertility gods up there I pray.

Feeling soggy I pull up a stunned Anarane whose hair was dripping and turn to greet Ter-Min-At-Ra. "Hey you rascal, I see you made your way here and are feeling right at home", noting pieces of slimy cabbage sliding off his shoulder. I turn to get a mead at the bar and see Mogh laughing at the mayhem. "Ah just the man I also wanted to see", holding out my horn for a top up, sighing. If anything else would or could go wrong, I was going to make sure that I had drunk enough not to notice it. But one thing for sure, it didnt look like I was going to be slipping off anywhere quiet with Anarane that day!

At Elwene's retreating back as she disappears out the bar tavern entrance.
'"Bright sunny morning" eh?' I huff! 'It's minus 20 in here. Shut the door will ya!' I brush mucky fingers through my hair and remove soggy straw and cabbage from my clothes, stepping over the wet gasping woman on the floor and joining Herger at the bar. I clap him hard on the back and making him wince.
'Where you been you mad bastard? Expected you days ago! If your latest raid was successful, the drinks are on you sport. It's the least you can do after making me wait here. And if I know you Herger, you always do the least you can do.'

Ye rogues! I love it here.

I say as I make my way to the bar, avoiding the guy who seems to be drinking out of his furry helmet. It makes me wonder who hair that is....his or the poor creature he took the antlers from. I also make sure to duck while the strange tanned person flicks off goo. It looks rather questionable...

I grab the nearest jug and slide it over. "get that into yer if your stomach can handle it. I suppose you've got what I wanted", raising my eyebrows at him. Nodding, he raises his hand to his breast and pulls out a map. "....and you have the other part of our bargain?"

I thought for a moment of the smithy raid at Tara wondering if I should say anything. Rather than give him some of the silver, perhaps I should just use my sword to get the map and not have to give him anything. Naturally it was a very tempting idea and one I would normally opt for, but I had to say that Ter-Min-At-Ra was a friend from way back and he had always come through with the goods. "Lets go outside..."

Walking out, I indicated to Mogh I would be back momentarily.

as Elenwe sloshes Herger and I with water, I realize she probably saved me from making a fool of myself in public. It is not every day a sexy blond wunderwarrior tackles me to the ground. I must say, that was rather too comfortable and I nearly forgot where I was.

Sitting by the fire, I decide to act non-chalant and start trying to dry out my hair and clothing. Oh yeah, that was way too good.

till I spy a clump of trees. Climbing a little ways up one of them I reach for a sack and jump down. It is filled with Silver pieces. "Here", I hand it to him, "this good enough for you?" Ter-Min-At-Ra grins, knowing he will get a good price on the market back in Egypt due to its rarity. Satisfied, he hands me the map and the deal is sealed. *g*

The string of different expressions on Herger's face...

I roll my eyes at him. The map is to the Egyptian gold mines of Pharaoh Seti and the raider wouldn't be welcome in Tara again for a long time. Time to try his luck in Egypt.
'Er, you've got it upside down sport. It's also written in Egyptian and a translation will cost you extra.'
He looks sharply at me, ready to take the smile from my face as I shift the bag of silver from one hand to the next judging it's weight.
Typically his hand goes to his sword hilt and I laugh. 'Still thinking with your sword Herg old friend?' And he relaxes into a grin. 'We've known each other a long time and I trust you with my life.' (Though, I think cautiouslyNOT with my silver, my weapons, my women or my ale).
'Let's go back inside the Red Boar and you can introduce me to the woman who got the drenching. That will take care of the extra cost in the maps translation. Then we'll have a few drinks and find a river to jump into. We could both use a bath!'

It was a crumbly old map

and I thought I'd better not open it too often unless it fell apart. I had to have it copied on a fresh piece of hide so it would also be seaworthy without dissolving. So carefully folding it up, I put it against my breast under my mail where it would be safe. Then grinning at him I grabbed both his shoulders in welcome and went back to the tavern to celebrate our good fortune.

The day had just gotten better

and I sat around the table drinking with Mogh and Ter-Min-At-Ra. Anarane and a few others came and sat with us and we were having a great time getting drunk. Now Mogh and I would be able to go plunder a fortune in gold in Egypt and at the same time I would take Ter-Min-At-Ra back home. Our drakkars were anchored down at the harbour but we were short on men or women. So I put the word out for volunteers to come raid with us for a share of the plunder. Any takers?

Well I figure

..and sit quietly amongst the other drinkers, drunks and listen to the not so internal conversation of Herger, his funny looking companion and of those not so enthusiastic about his proposed raiding party. I wonder if any of the other souls will be claimed and if I have to do anything about them...that was before I noticed the true Valkyrja, Anarane. Sighing I wiggle my rump down more comfortably down in my chair and hope maybe I'll learn something.

Now yer thinkin Herger!

Alexandria and Cat town (Bast something) have lots of gold statues. A lot of the other places are pretty much abandoned. WHat d'ya think Herger?

that you hit the gold on the head! Im also thinking we go by the Varangia Way down to the Mediterranean." Ter-Min-At-Ra grins and tells us also that the gold mines of Seti are in Nubia but we would have to sail the length of the Nile to reach it. "There could be many dangers", he says. I turn to look at him with amusement. "Dangers? I live for danger!"

A roaring of laughter erupts as more ale is poured out and the smell of Amalasuntha's fresh bread wafts to the table.

Alrighty then, should I send crows so we have someone to harass & plunder?

There be a few juicy places for our rich pickings on the way! My thralls tell me the ships are loaded with provisions and are ready. But before I go leave with Mogh and the crews, I secure a basketload of Amalasuntha's fresh bread as well as a cuddle or two with her out the back. *w*

I have a place along the way in Vannes too, top off supplies, harrass the natives a bit, eh?

Ter Min At Ra lets the conversation flow around him, asking no questions as he sups his beer. He didn't want to show his ignorance and he thought, it's better for me to leave a little mystery as to my motives in getting Herger and his friends to Egypt. Nonetheless he wondered what crows had to do with their endeavour. Of course, there were crows in Egypt; the Hooded Crow for one, the bird the Romans called the 'corvus corone cornix,' an intelligent but evil looking bird. And these 'thralls' were new to him. Herger had explained once that they were slaves and of course, they had slaves in Egypt too but they didn't buy and sell people as these Germanics did. He found that quite distasteful. Egyptian slaves were simply indentured servants or captives of war, who could always work for their freedom or be ransomed. He looked into Mogh's eyes, trying to guage whether he could trust him or not.
He knew he certainly could not trust Herger! They had been friends for far to long to allow trust to ruin their friendship!
'Mogh Roith,' he said, 'There's little gold in Hellas these days but plenty of marble if you like marble. In Egypt the city of the cats is called Per Bast and I would deem it a personal favor if we could give that city a wide berth. It's probably highly un-Egyptian of me but I dislike cats; they make me sneeze. As I know the lay of the land, I suggest we head straight for the city of Alexandria. The most important city on the coast of the Great Green. Alexandria has great wealth, not the least of which is a tomb ripe for plundering. It belongs to a Greekling called Alexandria. I doubt you've heard of him up here in the wilds of Germania. Our tombs are usually cursed but fortunately, I know how to counter the curses.'
He looked at Herger, 'And yes before you ask, there's a few good dinking houses as well.'

Drinking houses?!?

well if the half naked Egyptians that pass through this place are anything to go by then it will be a pleasure to visit, I thought, grinning. But my question was "what do they drink down there?". I didnt want any sickly bitter concoctions and sometimes I cringed at what Ter-Min-At-Ra had put in his potions. I looked over at him and wondered if I could trust his motives about this journey. He was a clever person, very tricky and hard to pin down, so sitting there in silence my thoughts wandered to what possible gains he would get from this. They also wandered into other realms, formulating my back up plans...

Ter-min-at-Ra, you have more ideas? We want your country! Gettin' squeemish yet?

when I sent one of my thralls with a secret message to my half brother. He would come a little after us and be ready to come up behind the enemy if we are waylaid or tricked and neither Mogh or Ter-Min-At-Ra were to know of this. Might just say it was my protection.

My little brother had been a great support to me before and with his giant knarr and two drakkars he was a force on his own to be reckoned with. The knarr would serve to carry most of the plunder back and who best to guard it was he. The winds were favourable and the omens good. Now was the time to up anchor and hoist sail.

Ter-Min-At-Ra looked a little squeemish at the prospect of what was to come and gulped. Laughing, I slapped him on the back as I happily went out the door with Mogh and headed towards our ships.

'Ere we go! The Northerly is our friend this time!

"You think it will work."

"It will take a miracle"

The boy turns to look at the tall redhead in shock. "You don't think they can do it?"

She smiled back, "Yes, they are great warriors. What will be a miracle is if they make it to Egypt without killing each other."

"Maybe with all their gold, they can pay their bar tab."

"Now that really WILL be a miracle."
