The Year of the Rat starts on the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on February 7 this year.

A Rat Year is a time of hard work, activity and renewal, with little turbulence. This is a good year for fresh starts: a new job, a new home, a new enterprise, a new project, marriage and so forth.

2008 is an Earth Rat year, which means new ventures may not yield the fastest returns, but if you are resourceful and ready for anything, opportunity will come a-knocking. Those who are patient and allow things to develop at their own pace will have the greatest success.

People born in an Earth Rat year are considered to be courageous, enterprising, logical, family-oriented, ambitious, shrewd, charming, pleasant, tactful, gifted and loads of fun. They have broad interests and are very adaptable. The Rat is definitely considered a lucky sign.

So, fingers crossed, 2008 should be a great year!

Apparently, according to Feng-shui expert Charlie Chao, 2008 will be an especially lucky year for us dragons. Master Chao predicts the following:

Luckiest are those born in the year of the Dragon, wherein they can expect promotions from their jobs.

Also lucky are those born in the year of the Snake, lucky for those who have their own business, or plans to start one.

Equally lucky are those born in the year of the Goat and Monkey, albeit they should be careful as they are supposed to be an eye-candy for thieves.

Those born in the year of the Rabbit are also lucky in terms of financial aspects.

Unexpected winnings and surprises awaits those born in the year of the Rat. If you’re one of them, better buy those lottery tickets!

Those born in the year of the Ox and Tiger can expect a very warm lovelife. For those married, it may pose problems as temptations are always on the way.

For those born in the year of the Horse, this may be your unlucky year. Horse-people are prone to accidents so be always vigilant.

Equally unlucky are those born in the year of the Pig and Dog. They should always be health-conscious and avoid food and activities that may affect their health.
