Lamanai (Submerged Crocodile), in current day Belize, is a Mayan town with at least two ruined temples. Depicted is 'Structure N10-9' (Temple of the Jaguar Masks). Its first phase of construction was circa 600 AD, early Classical, and further additions were made over time. It was still in use at 1200 AD, and may well have seen use until about 1600 AD. The Lamanai lowlands of the Mayan empire were the last to fall into decay when the rest of the empire disintegrated, due to the town's location on the important New River.

The Mayas rose to their full splendor independently of the Old World civilizations. Like them, you're probably a bit obsessive. Don't worry, you'll make a good engineer.
