Unknown to me were the ardent ecstacies of youth,
That uncommon freedom of body and spirit.
So oft enraptured are the young!
Summer legs entangled
In wooded secluded bliss...
Unhampered by love
Unclothed by desire.
No sunset's vermillion had caressed me.
I had stood not bare before God
As the universal stars shone meekly above.
Chaste youth, joys untasted, behind me
I clung to no memory of love's blush.
Devoid, I had long walked blindly
Asleep were my passions, long hidden.
Among the scattered ruins of loves and lovers unrealized,
Shadowed by ghosts, malingering,
I became autumned and wintered, dead and cold.
The locked gate, the shuttered sash
Unawakened, untried, wandering.
No trembling from an intimate heat...
No relief from another's cool touch.
Oh, but now! Thou hast come!
My Elegant Obsession!
Thou hast subdued, not stormed my gate!
The wintered and autumned heart you have warmed
And silently have delivered a season of spring.
Awakened...Your very breath airs my spirit!
Each lock yields willingly, your hand destroys nothing!
The path you have cleared, the wanderer you have saviored.
Freedom dances now in my garden, and the stars call out your name!
You've bid me bathe in your sunset's vermillion
To stand unadorned before God unashamed.
Given to me are the tastes of splendor.
Enraptured am I...as oft are the young!
Awakened to love, undone by desire
Cling I now to this love's new memory.
You're my passion, my obsession, my love.
