My late husband's name was Bail Baket, Bail being a family name carried through many a generation. He was a very good leader to the Alderaan people, serving as both king as senator, carrying Alderaan through the transition from a monarchtic to republic state.
Alderaan was new the Galactic Republic of planets, but we all knew that in joining the republic, brought to us was a more fruitful existance, not only for our planet but for the people, as many of our laws changed from the transformation as well. My husband was a fond figurehead, leading us through this difficult time. Looking back, I don't see how we could have changed more smoothly, as overnight Alderaan became a democracy.
My husband died not from assasination or from battle but from a brain aneurysm in his sleep. He lived a good, fruitful life for being a man of only 40 years in age. The entire planet mourned for him, and a statue of my husband now stands in the courtyard of the capital, along with three other key founders to Alderaan.
After his death, there was an interm period of four months where Alderaan was led by committee of political leaders. After the four month period, I stepped forward to become senator, hoping to carry forth the dreams that Bail held for our people. The vote was unanimous, and I attended my first meeting of the Galactic senate one week later in Coruscant.
Bail was not only a great leader and a great husband, but he was a great father, and a great man as well. He lived by his word, he held his head in respect, and he was careful in his actions, always making decisions not for his own gain but for the true good of the Alderaan people. He was a hero to us all.
