The Stadium

It is here where the main competitions were held. The foot races in particular. Although this photo is quite small, the length of the track is 212.54m and a width of 28.50m and held approx 45,000 spectators.

This is the start line. It is a raised brick line where the athletes were able to dig in their toes to get a better start.

Women were banned from Olympic competition and also banned from spectating. If you were found out, you were punishable by death. Women had their own competitions. The foot race of Hera is the most famous of the races for women. The distance of the race was approx 160m. Far shorter than the men's race. The winner still received the olive wreath like the men.

The whole of the flag is made up using HTML. This will only work where the flag is in blocks of color. French, Italian, etc... Any other flags with stars could be used but would have to upload the star as a seperate graphic and then use it as a background color. The beauty of this is that you don\'t have to upload a graphic and it doesn\'t take up precious room in your gallery. :-D
