Scribal Changeover
This year, we welcome Francis Drake as our new Scribe. CherokeeRose has moved on to other business, and he was willing and able to stand up and take over. Please take a moment to welcome him. Remember that all your Scribes are here to help you in any way they can - all you have to do is ask.

Featured Members
Returning from a long break, we want to welcome back Apo Mayta Huacac. He is an former scribe with prodigious experience in building our hoods and is a graphics whiz. It is nice to see his happy, shining face around The Americas again.
Also, we'd like to feature Izhinawensiwag Sealth . She has been in the Americas since early 2004 and has recently agreed to work on our hoods centering on the Ojibwe. Thank you Izhi for stepping forward to help us out! We are thrilled to see two old hats back in action in the Americas!
Featured Place
 Land of the Aurora Borealis
Since Winter is nearly upon us here in the Northern Hemisphere, why not learn more about the northern-most area of our World?
The Aurora Borealis got its name* from the Roman goddess of the dawn, Aurora, and the Greek word for the north wind, Boreas. It occurs due to solar winds colliding with earth's atomosphere at its poles. The southern lights are called the Aurora Australis.

New Hood opens!
Last month the Americas was able to open the Caribbean, thanks to a lot of work done ahead by Tanama Morningstar. So far there are two areas open: Boriken (ancient Puerto Rico) and Brethren of the Coast, a haven for pirates in Ancient Worlds.
Tanama (and any volunteers willing to help!) is also planning to develop Quisqueya (Hispaniola), Xaymaca (Jamaica), Caobana (Cuba), and Lesser Antilles. To volunteer, talk to a scribe.
To check where we need other 'hood help, go to the America's Neighborhood Project thread to see the list. If you see a place that YOU would like to work on, contact any of your friendly, neighborhood scribes.
There is also discussion going on right now about the planning of a new hood,Jacossee. Please join in the conversation to help create this hood that has been in the wings for quite a while.
Festival Round-Up
Dias de los Muertos
Keeping with the recent "recycling" theme, we kept Dias de los Muertos, (AKA Day of the Dead) on the down-low. Since the whole idea of DoD is to celebrate and remember our loved ones who have gone on ahead of us, we focussed on offerings such as can be made at our Altar. But there was also fun to be had at the Ask Cat for a wish thread. She is such a smarty-pants! Check it out for yourself, she really is!
Goldfest 2010
This year Goldfest was a combination of War Games and Treasure Hunts that took
place all over the eight ancient Worlds. Each world had it's own Military
Headquarters, but we chose to make ours
a "Medicine Lodge" as the Americas wanted to be a peaceful haven for all those
participating.
Cusi Kinich placed icons throughout the Americas hoods and wrote up some nifty
clues to try to make it difficult for them to be found, but to no avail! Rome
and the Orient had outstanding teams and our treasures were not safe for long!
We also featured several hood homes and some great articles pertaining to
war, in some measure at least. To re-visit any of them, click on the following
