Duties are:  To chase up players who don't contribute quickly enough (especially if their contribution is vital to progress of a story line) and to sound out other players on their opinions so that they can be put to the umpire who will studiously ignore them. Also to act as deputy to ensure group continuity in the case of Vmpirial assassination.
