Gothic, Alternative terms: Gothic novel, Gothic narrative
A type of fiction that arose in the eighteenth century.
Usually it was charactarised by horror, the supernatural, violence, and medieval elements.
Most times, a castle, usually dark and gloomy, was also featured.
Other common Gothic features often include insanity, ghosts and spirits, and deep, dark family secrets.
