The family, Userkaf, is named for the first Pharaoh of the Fifth Dynasty. Userkaf, also known as Weserkaf, was the grandson of Djedefre, and the son of Queen Neferhotep.
Userkaf built his pyramid in Saqqara, by King Djoser's funerary enclosure wall. His mortuary temple breaks with tradition and is located on the south side of his pyramid, rather than the eastern side. At Abu-Gurob, Userkaf built the first of five sun-temple sanctuaries that became standard practice for Fifth Dynasty kings.
