The Golden Fables

Awards will be announced October 23!
October 15-21, 2007 Introduction Aesop's fables are characterized by a concise and essential style. The Fables writing style takes the goal of representing a human motive and the improvement of human conduct yet conceals its design under the disguise of fictitious characters. By the use of speech in characters such as the animals, the trees, or the beasts of the forest, the lesson is kept out of view and becomes accepted as the listener/reader is unconsciously led to have ampathy toward what is honorable or praiseworthy, and indignation against what is unworthy and dishonorable. The true fabulist is a great teacher, a corrector of morals, a censor of vice, and a commender of virtue. Through Aesop's funny tales he shows men's merits and faults with educational and, in a friendly manner, satirical intention. How To Play The writing challenge is as follows: 1. Using Aesop's writing style, write a short fable, anywhere from 50 to 400 words, on the topic of Gold. 2. The fable must include a morale to the story. 3. No more than two entries per contestant. The contest starts on October 15 and runs for the duration of Goldfest 2007. All entries must be submitted by October 21 midnight AW time. The judging will take place on October 22. Judges shall consider originality, content, adherance to guidelines and presentation for the winning determinations. Got a question?
