THE AQUA FENNICA SAUNA CHALLENGE Final Judging: Jul 31, 2005 - 23:00 est.
General Contest
Hey, Fellers!
( * MacMorna Niafer - Jul 31, 2005 - 21:46 )
Ya ought ta try Louisiana! We throw in the steam for free, too! Although we seldom hit Arizona Temps, it can get pretty uncomfortable. I have seen my interior thermometer at 165 F.
Post your entries at the Pub-thread!
( * Tobius Tullius - Jul 31, 2005 - 18:44 )
Of course you can post here too, in fact it is interesting, but a post in here will not earn you a drinking hard hat. (or maybe it will, depending on the quality of the post).
Sauna is Finnish for Dog Days
( * Popo Fufius - Jul 31, 2005 - 17:24 )
Dog Days, during which only madmen and Englishmen venture out. Or so they say...Finns would too, not because they're mad (in general) but because they love getting hot. It's not their fault, however, that their country got misplaced so far north. So instead they get their Dog Days inside a wooden box where they first get bare-naked, throw water on heated stones, and dream of Sumatra or the Yucatan for a spell...They shock themselves back into reality by running outside into a snowbank or jumping into icy water. This I find inhuman, so maybe they're a bit mad after all.
Now, now Casta
( * Sol Leonidas - Jul 31, 2005 - 16:59 )
Don't go blaming Old Sol for baking inside your car. Park under trees! Besides, it isn't quite the same, is it?I mean, can you be naked inside your car in the American desert, beating yourself up with a birch branch while throwing water around for steam? Sure you can, but you'd be arrested for sure. Unless, of course, you could blame the behaviour on heatstroke...But you'd still get arrested. :)
SAUNA?
( * Casta Didius - Jul 31, 2005 - 16:07 )
Or "sAW-nah" as they say around here. Who needs a sauna when, here in Arizona, going back to your car after a gooodly spell in the Mall means finding yourself in " Finnish Sauna stage two" at the very least, and for free!
CONTEST DESCRIPTION AND RULES: Your task is to show how brave/yellowbelly and funny/desperate you are when your skin is burning. The task comprises of 7 stages, first one having 60 ºC (140 ºF) temperature, and every stage therefrom raises the temperature by 10 degrees Celcius (18 in Fahrenheit). During every stage, you have to either throw some liquid on the hot stones to raise steam (löyly) or drink some liquid, choosing from water, beer or Aqua Fennica Vodka. Also, at least on 3 stages, you have to beat yourself with a "vihta" (a cleansing beating device made out of birch twigs with leaves). Post your entry at the Pataässä Pub at Roman Slave Market-thread, from 4 PM to 11 PM AW-time on July 31st. Only one brave can be a winner (judged by your post(s)), and he/she will win a special hard hat saying "Thirst Raid BRAVE", which will be displayed as an award at his/her entrance. Other signed-up contestants will get a "normal" Thist Raid Hard hat with the blue cross. ![]() THE STAGES: 1st stage: 60 ºC (140 ºF) 2nd stage: 70 ºC (158 ºF) 3rd stage: 80 ºC (176 ºF) 4th stage: 90 ºC (194 ºF) 5th stage: 100 ºC (212 ºF) 6th stage: 110 ºC (230 ºF) 7th stage: 120 ºC (248 ºF) One last advice: You can never be sure who will win a Sauna Challenge; it has been known to happen that a 5 yo child has beaten a seasoned old sailor. So be brave and enjoy the steam! Virtual Finland's info about Finnish Sauna: Bare facts of the sauna. And remember to follow the Code of Conduct and Cornellia's Roleplay Etiquette. |
