High Aspirations from Gaul |

The Gallic dieties have been studied by scholars for many years. The first accounts we have of the Gallic deities is found in Caesar's Testimony of the Gallic Wars.
"Among the gods, they worship Mercury. There are numerous images of him; they declare him the inventor of all the arts, the guide for every road and journey, and they deem him to have the greatest influence for all commerce and travel. After him in importance are Apollo, Mars, Jupiter, and Minerva. Of these deities they have almost the same concept as all other nations: Apollo drives away disease, Minerva supplies the first principles of arts and crafts, Jupiter holds the empire of heaven, Mars controls wars."While this thread will study these deities in particular and what the celts called them, we will also be studying many of the lesser Celtic deities as well.
(Caesar, VI, 17, 341)
