Brighid's flame burns constantly for those who seek its blessing. " From the very earliest of days, a group of nineteen women devoted to Brighid, maintained the Sacred Flame at Cill Dara. Each would take a turn as "Keeper of the Flame", sitting beside the fire from one sunset to the next. It was said that, on the twentieth day, Brighid herself would tend the fire. |
