Branch: Algic (Yurok, Wiyot, Algonkian):

Tribes include: Cree, Naskapi, Montagnais, Micmac, Malecite, Abnaki, Penobscot, Ojibway (Chippewa), Ottawa, Algonkin, Saulteaux, Passamaquoddy, Massachusett, Menominee, Fox, Sauk, Kickapoo, Potawatomi, Shawnee, Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Arapaho, Atsina

These people were found in northwest California (the Yurok and Wiyot), central and eastern Canada, New England, Central Atlantic, Southern Great Lakes, Western Great Plains.

Branch: Gulf, including the following families: Natchez, Atakapa, Chitimacha, Tunica, Tonkawa.

These are located in Louisiana and Texas.

Branch: Muskogean. This includes the following languages/tribes: Choctaw, Chickasaw, Alabama, Koasati, Mikasuki, Hitchiti, Muskogee or Creek, Seminole. Located in Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma and Florida.
