Among the seventy-two recorded restaurants in Northern Song Kaifeng, the largest and best was the Fanlou Restaurant. This three-story building was located on the Imperial Way and boasted five galleried structures connected by elevated bridges. The establishment attracted all sorts, from rebels to courtesans to the Emperor Huizong himself.
