From their subjection to the Huns to the fall of the Italian Ostrogothic Kingdom. The Ostrogoths emerged from the Hunnic conquest as one of the dominant Germanic peoples. Under Theodoric the Great they established what can be seen as the first medieval European kingdom and dominated the post-Roman world. Their powerful but shortlived kingdom was a model for those who followed them.
