Tracing the history of the Gothic Peoples - amongst the greatest of the Germanic migrant peoples - from their departure from Scandinavia to the end of their kingdom on the Ukrainian Steppes. The "Goths" were never a single tribe and various bands and tribal groups who called themselves "Goths" slowly expanded down the great rivers of central Europe until they reached the Black Sea. There various groups settled, with the Greuthungians settling on the steppes and the Tervingians in the forests north of the Danube. The events of 376, with the defeat of the great Gothic king Ermanaric triggered a new wave of migrations for the Goths, out of which the Ostrogoths and the Visigoths were to be born.
